Managing the Tesco way

As finance and strategy director of FTSE-100 group Tesco Andrew Higginson has, alongside chief executive officer (CEO) Sir Terry Leahy, overseen a decade of unprecedented commercial success. Tesco is now the UK’s leading retailer, operating 2,000 stores across the globe (with inroads to be made into the US market later this year), and latest preliminary figures for 2006/07 showing 13.2% growth in underlying profit to £2.55 billion. Perhaps not surprisingly, Accountancy Age gave him its 2006 award for ‘outstanding industry contribution’.
